BEST KEPT SECRET IN TOWN! This restaurant has by far the best food in Cedar Lake, Schererville, St. John, and Crown Point. I stopped here with my father and wife and we all had something a little different: started with Calamari and Mozzarella sticks (both were exceptional), and had several frosty libations, and finished with several different entrees. All of the aforementioned were perfectly cooked and paired nicely with all the combining spices. Best of all, the prices for the quality of food don't break the bank. IF you happen to be going through town, definitely stop here and you will not be disappointed. I certainly would not consider going anywhere else.

Pier 74 is located in an unassuming building across from the lake. The lobby feels like an old pizza pick up place. The dining room is okay - kind of family casual. There is a tiny bar with 4 stools. Now the food... WOW! Mom and I stopped for a quick bite and were blown away. We ordered appetizers - coconut shrimp, bruschetta and wings. The shrimp were delicious! The breading was light with a smattering of coconut and the came with a nice sweet sauce. There were six large shrimp for about $5. The bruchetta came on a foccacio style bread with fresh herbs and chopped tomatoes. A side of marinara was okay but unnecessary. We ordered hot wings and they came a little sweet., They were very tasty and served with a generous side of celery and blue cheese. The $3.50 house wines were fine. Our bill came to $26 and we returned a few days later with a group of 5. The food was again very good. One of us had Mahi Mahi. His only comment was that the portion wasn't huge but he (my husband) is a bottomless pit. It came with a well flavored rice. The salads were large and had a nice variety of ingredients. A mixture of lettuce would be an improvement. The pizza had a bit too much sauce for me but my friend liked it. The service is very friendly. This is a family owned place and there is always a family member around.

Do NOT stop at any of those crappy "fast casual" restaurants as you head south on 41 through Highland, or St. John. You know the ones I'm talking about. The Texas Roadhouse, the Jalapeno Bobs, etc., etc.. And gawd, please, do NOT tell me you ate at "Schoops". Blecch. The food at Pier 74 is top notch, and a relative rarity in these parts. Food prepared by a kitchen staff who obviously care about their craft. Versus the chains mentioned above, which care about (a) shareholder value and (b) ROI. Great value and service. Servers at Pier 74 are pleasant and helpful although maybe not a ton of experience. If you ask about a dish's preparation, they'll gladly ask if they don't know the answer. Perfect? No. I wish they'd brighten up the view from the front, across the sea of asphalt, maybe put in some out door dining and push all the parking behind the building. (Great people watching at the Dairy Queen across the street - biker dudes/biker chicks, neighborhood kids). Nicest operation in this part of Lake County, bar none. If you think nice attitude doesn't count for something, go get a hamburger from the surly teens running the operation at Schoops. I dare ya. Just don't say i didn't warn ya.

Have been a regular customer (about once a week) since they opened. I can honestly say I never have had a bad meal. Always pleasant staff willing to answer any question. Ribs are fork tender and amazing. Pizza is always a winner, I recommend the Cali-Style Pizza, grilled chicken, pineapple, marinara and BBQ sauce, crust is to die for. Always a great meal!!!! Affordable, pleasant, and Non-Smoking which is nice!

Came here for a friends rehearsal dinner. I was pleasantly surprised about the quality of the pizza. The crust is toasted perfectly and the pizza was delicious. The owner came out to talk to us and he was very friendly and pleasant to chat with.

It's hard to find good pizza outside of Chicago, but Pier 74 definitely hits the spot! I've been coming here since 2009, and the pizza has always been good. However, on my most recent stop I was pleased to notice they have changed up their recipe a little bit --and it was WONDERFUL! The crust is dusted with a garlic butter...the sauce is perfect. I was in absolute pizza nirvana...will be back again soon! On a side note, they always have an interesting selection of beer that compliments the food well. :)

Short menu, quality fresh food. Everything I've had here is delicious, including their pizza. Their deep dish pizza is very good too! The owner and the server were very friendly and helpful. Good beer selection. The decor is nice and it's an ambient environment. Very comfortable. Make sure you call before you come because they are a small family owned business and don't have set hours. This is a great place to come!

Spinach n tomato pizza was done nicely! Will definitely be back for more. Burger was a lil dry that my wife ordered. Fish and chips were very good and would get again. Mad hatter and summer shandy on tap for $4. Quiet Comfortable place with a good view of the lake.

Okay so now it's Pier Grill, and not Pier 74. Regardless of the slight name change and confusion over when they are open, this is one of Cedar Lake's little charmers. I recall the menu before it changed...where is my beloved olive bread with marinara on the side? Seriously, put it back on the menu for all of us olive fans. There are times when you drive past the restaurant and question if its open. I see cars, guess my husband and I will stop in after a long absence. There was a beef taco special served with a watermelon pico de gallo. As I was not overly impressed with the tacos, the pico de gallo was fantastic as the waitress said it would be. The taco meat was too lightly seasoned for my taste, but others may enjoy this. All in all they were tasty though and I managed to consume a good portion of it. My husband ordered the cowboy platter and the ribs were delicious along with the pulled pork and mashed potatoes with bacon and cheddar. I've heard the ribs were good, and they fell off the bone; tender and mildly covered in sauce. To accompany my meal, I ordered the Tres Blueberry Stout, an acquired taste for some, but I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it. Sort of like a cross between coffee, chocolate and a mellow undertone of blueberries. A good brew to savor near the fireplace or when the sun is setting over the lake. The décor is open, airy and a bit of an urban vibe. A much needed change for a town that is finally experiencing a paradigm shift. I recall having a pizza here in the past and it was very good. Will be back to try that and more. Server was friendly and attentive too.

Great food with a great view of Cedar Lake! Had some delicious scrambled eggs topped with onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar cheese! Delicious! Topped it off with a cinnamon roll that was amazing! Can hardly wait to try something off their dinner menu! This really is a great find for those who live in the Cedar Lake area!

Food is okay, although they took my favorite thing off the nenu. Manager not so friendly. Now I see why the place is always empty. Maybe she was just having a very bad day. But we attempted to joke with her to make her smile, and just got a rude attitude and she walked away. She's never very friendly, but this one took the cake. I will definitely not be back!

My husbands review: I have to agree with all of the positive feedback, first visit last nite won't be the last. Had chili (just like home) and mahi mahi, very good! Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and NO smoking, yay! Portion was just right to enable dessert, :-) My review: We had driven by this place many times before actually giving it a try. It looks like it's closed half the time because the windows are tinted. The place is nice enough, nothing fancy, friendly staff. The bar is 4 stools big ( er small) but they do have some non run-of-the-mill brews on tap plus they carry the better NA beers. We will definitely be going back!
